Dressing Jewelry: the Dress Down

Do you ever have an item that you would want to be the centre of attention? Do you ever want people to notice just that one, two or maybe three things that are on your person or would you like them to notice the whole look in equal measure? At times my jewelry will be the constant in the whole outfit and the rest of the outfit are just variables. (That’s some math talk right there. 🙂 )

After many trials and error I discovered the art of “Dressing Jewelry” as I would like to call it and it can be quite a challenge if you aren’t sure of your intention. Let me explain further. At times you would want your jewelry to be the most outstanding thing about your outfit. At times you would want it to be just as bold as your outfit and at times you would want everything to blend gently. This art makes sure that at the end of it all your jewelry still gets recognition and is never overshadowed at any point. I came up with three ways and the first way of doing this is the Dress Down and I shall be working with KrysandChris Accessories to help illustrate. This is a three part series so buckle up!

The Dress Down

When it comes to dressing I at times get most excited about my jewelry to the extent that I will make sure the rest of the outfit will revolve around it even though it means having more than five wardrobe changes. I can be quite the perfectionist at times.

The Dress Down makes sure that the jewelry is noticed the most in the whole of the outfit. This is done by wearing clothes with block colors, preferably darker colors such as black so that the jewelry can stand out more.

For example, one of the jewelry pieces I love is this Blue Red Tassel long chain which is exotic but delicate in nature coupled with Blue waterdrop earrings which complement the chain.

A tassel chain of this fashion could easily get lost if worn with a very bold outfit so I would advise toning down the outfit so that the jewelry can stand out.

Having a bag that has the same color of the jewelry also helps in bringing out the jewelry. In this case a Red pleated shoulder bag will do the trick.

This lovely strong White Enamel stone necklace complemented with beautiful White Pearl Gold stud earrings also cannot go unnoticed. To add a bit of pizzazz to the outfit, a complementary white jacket and pair of sunglasses can be worn.

Lastly, this small black Monochrome bag completes the look.

And there you have it! Two killer looks.
